The Effect of Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy (VSS) to the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at the Eighth Grade of SMPI Sunan Bonang Situbondo
Abstract
Vocabulary is one of language components and word meaning in both oral and written language in productive and receptive form. This research aimed to find out the effect of vocabulary self-collection strategy (VSS) to the student’s vocabulary. The problem which is discussed in this research focused on vocabulary mastery. The problem in this research is student hard to express their ideas because they have lack of vocabulary and they felt English is complicated learning. Finally, they are could not remember what the material that have been explain. Research approach in this thesis was quantitative. Collecting data method in this research was documentation and test. The sample of this thesis was 42 students selected by entire population. An analysis relating to the effect of vocabulary self-collection strategy (VSS) to the students’ vocabulary mastery at SMPI Sunan Bonang Situbondo was done by using Pearson product moment. The finding of this research indicated that the score of students in SMPI Sunan Bonang was good in vocabulary mastery with the maximum value (95.00). The result of normality test, it shown that there was positive effect in students’ vocabulary mastery. Based on the score sig= 0.025 > 0.005 and 0.010 > 0.005, so Ha was accepted and H0 were rejected. Also, the t-test value shown Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000. It was lower than 0.05. It means there was positive effect in students’ vocabulary mastery.
